The purpose of the meeting, which took place on October 3-7, 2022, in Kozloduy, Bulgaria, was to discuss and share experiences, improvements, practices, and lessons learned related to the disposal of low-level radioactive waste, with an emphasis on the closure of near-surface repositories.
In addition, the event participants discussed the next steps in planning the Network’s activities and the needs of countries within the framework of regional technical cooperation. In particular, they had the opportunity to visit the national radioactive waste disposal site and the plasma incinerator.
During the meeting, participants discussed issues related to the current situation of the participating countries regarding the management of low-level radioactive waste. The vice-president of WiN Ukraine, Anastasiia Nechytailo, informed the meeting participants and IAEA experts about the current affairs at the “Vector” Complex and also emphasized the work carried out by the company the help of international partners to overcome the consequences of the occupation.
