From November 29 to December 3, 2021, a virtual inaugural seminar “Black Sea Women in the Nuclear Network” was held, co-organized by James Martin Center for Non-Proliferation and the Odessa Center for Non-Proliferation.
BSWN is a regional professional network whose mission is to unite, support and empower women in the fields of nuclear energy, radiation safety and non-proliferation. The interdisciplinary network brings together women in STEM,
representatives of national governments, industry and the public from Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, Turkey, Ukraine and Moldova.
During this event, WiN Ukraine reported on its annual activities, along with other regional offices. The event also discussed issues of challenges to nuclear security and non-proliferation, international cooperation in the Black Sea region, international efforts to promote women in the nuclear sector and other issues.
The BSWN network, supported by the US Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) and the Swedish Radiation Safety Regulatory Authority, is designed to serve as a platform to promote gender equality and increase women’s leadership in nuclear safety and non-proliferation, as well as offer opportunities for professional exchange, mentoring and training.
