WiN Ukraine at the IAEA General Conference: Women, Human Capital and the Future of Ukraine’s Nuclear Sector

As part of the 70th IAEA General Conference in Vienna, representatives of Women in Nuclear Ukraine took part in an international side event dedicated to the role of women, human capital, and the future of Ukraine’s nuclear sector.

The event was organized by the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management (SAUEZM) in partnership with Energoatom, the Ukrainian Nuclear Society, and WiN Ukraine. It was the first joint event following the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between our organizations.

The discussion was moderated on behalf of SAUEZM by Margaryta Raiets, Advisor to the Head of the Agency, Honorary Co-Founder of WiN Ukraine and the first President of WiN Ukraine (2020–2025), and Anastasiia Nechytailo, Advisor to the Head of the Agency, Honorary Co-Founder and Vice President of WiN Ukraine (2020–2025).

The combination of public-sector expertise and the professional women’s network made it possible to focus the discussion on practical issues related to developing human capital in Ukraine’s nuclear sector.

Representatives of the international nuclear community also joined the discussion, including Women in Nuclear Global, WiN IAEA, and national WiN chapters. For WiN Ukraine, the event provided another opportunity to showcase the Ukrainian professional community and expand connections for future cooperation.

Commenting on WiN Ukraine’s participation in the event, Alona Zavorotnia, President of WiN Ukraine, said:

“It is particularly important for WiN Ukraine that the voices of Ukrainian women in the nuclear sector are part of the international professional dialogue. Our task today is to turn international connections into tangible opportunities for Ukrainian professionals and young people, while contributing to the development of our professional community.”

A dedicated part of the event was the presentation of the English-language Almanac, focusing on the experience of Ukraine’s nuclear sector during the full-scale war and the role of women in strengthening its resilience.

For WiN Ukraine, participation in the IAEA General Conference means greater international visibility for Ukrainian women professionals, new professional connections, and an opportunity to move from introductions and discussions towards joint international initiatives and projects.

Thank you to our partners, colleagues, and everyone who took part in the discussion!
