The State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management (SAUEZM) and Women in Nuclear Ukraine (WiN Ukraine), a Ukrainian non-governmental organisation, have signed a Memorandum of Partnership and Cooperation, marking a new stage in their collaboration.
SAUEZM and WiN Ukraine have a long-standing history of cooperation, with the first memorandum between the organisations signed several years ago. The new document builds on this cooperation and expands the areas of joint work in line with the current priorities of the nuclear sector and exclusion zone management.
The Memorandum was signed by Volodymyr Feshchenko, Acting Head of SAUEZM, and Alona Zavorotnia, President of WiN Ukraine.
The document provides for the implementation of joint social, humanitarian, environmental, educational, and scientific initiatives; the exchange of information and professional expertise; the organisation of joint events; and the development of projects in the fields of nuclear energy, radioactive waste management, nuclear and radiation safety, nuclear security, and environmental protection.
A separate area of cooperation focuses on promoting gender equality, equal rights and opportunities for women and men, and the professional development of women in the fields of nuclear energy, nuclear and radiation safety, and nuclear security. The parties also plan to raise public awareness of women’s contributions to the development of nuclear energy, science, education, industry, and related technologies.
“Cooperation with professional civil society organisations provides an opportunity to bring together the expertise of the public sector and the professional community around issues of long-term importance to the sector. WiN Ukraine and SAUEZM already have a history of joint work, and today we are formalising its continuation and defining a broader range of areas for cooperation. For SAUEZM, the development of the professional community, exchange of experience, support for educational and scientific initiatives, and engagement of experts in projects related to the exclusion zone and nuclear and radiation safety remain important priorities,” said Volodymyr Feshchenko, Acting Head of SAUEZM.
The cooperation between SAUEZM and WiN Ukraine has already produced practical results. One of the joint initiatives this year was the third national Women in Nuclear Award 2026 ceremony, held in April with the support of SAUEZM as part of the art and technology exhibition “Chornobyl. 40 Years Later. A History That Obligates Us”.
“The support of SAUEZM for our initiatives is extremely important to WiN Ukraine, and we are sincerely grateful to the Agency for its openness to cooperation. One example of this cooperation is the third national Women in Nuclear Award 2026 ceremony, which was held in April with the support of SAUEZM as part of the art and technology exhibition ‘Chornobyl. 40 Years Later. A History That Obligates Us’. This support was particularly valuable to us, as it enabled us to recognise the professional contributions of women from across the nuclear sector at an event dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster. The signing of the Memorandum enables us to continue this cooperation and provides a foundation for new joint educational, professional, and industry initiatives,” said Alona Zavorotnia, President of WiN Ukraine.
Under the Memorandum, the parties plan to implement joint projects and events, exchange information and international experience, and organise conferences, lectures, seminars, training sessions, exhibitions, and other educational and scientific activities. The document also provides for the possibility of establishing joint working and expert groups and implementing research and development projects.
