On March 9-10, a meeting of the Global Partnership Against the Spread of Weapons and Materials of Mass Destruction group was held in Tokyo, Japan, within the framework of Japan’s G-7 presidency.
Vice President of WiN Ukraine Anastasiia Nechytailo and Executive Director of WINS Lars Van Dassen took part in the event from the World Institute for Nuclear Security. The Government of Ukraine was represented at the meeting by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Japan Serhii Korsunskyi.
During the meeting of the Global Partnership, the project “Voices of Ukraine” was presented – a joint project of the World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS) and WiN Ukraine with the support of the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management and other specialized institutions and organizations
The “Voices of Ukraine” project is a collection of personal stories and testimonies of representatives of the nuclear industry of Ukraine about the consequences of February 24, 2022. The creation of the book was supported by the governments of the USA, Canada, Sweden and Norway. The goal of the project is to tell the truth and deliver a message to the whole world about how the lives of Ukrainian nuclear workers have changed after the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, and what dire consequences the constant threat of nuclear terrorism from the aggressor has for the field. The project is of international importance and is intended to be an impetus for future initiatives to build a new world nuclear safety architecture precisely through the messages of eyewitnesses who lived/are living the war, remaining at their workplaces to protect nuclear and radiation safety.
We would like to remind you that the project of the book was presented on February 28, 2023 in Vienna with the assistance of the Permanent Representation of Canada in Vienna, the Embassy of Sweden and Norway with the participation of 45 ambassadors and their deputies at the residence of the Embassy of Sweden.
The presentation of the first volume of the book is scheduled for April 27, 2023.
