The Energy Safety Institute, a Ukrainian public union, and Women in Nuclear Ukraine (WiN Ukraine), a Ukrainian non-governmental organisation, have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, formalising their intention to develop joint professional, educational, and information initiatives in the field of nuclear energy.
The cooperation will include the exchange of professional expertise; the organisation of conferences, discussions, lectures, training sessions, and other industry events; engagement with young professionals and students; as well as support for initiatives aimed at professional development and increasing women’s participation in the nuclear sector.
A separate area of cooperation will focus on joint projects addressing the challenges faced by Ukraine’s nuclear energy sector as a result of the full-scale war. Ukraine has gained unique and complex experience in operating its nuclear sector under the occupation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), amid military threats to civilian nuclear facilities and energy infrastructure, prolonged pressure on nuclear personnel, and the need to maintain nuclear and radiation safety under circumstances for which no ready-made practical solutions previously existed.
The Energy Safety Institute and WiN Ukraine plan to work together to analyse and professionally communicate this experience, including through analytical, informational, and educational projects, professional discussions, and international outreach.
“Over the past several years, Ukraine’s nuclear sector has accumulated experience that requires professional analysis, discussion, and transfer to the next generation of specialists. For us, cooperation with WiN Ukraine is an opportunity to bring together different professional communities around concrete initiatives — from educational projects and work with young people to expert discussions on emerging challenges to nuclear safety. At the same time, it is important to create modern formats for professional interaction where specialists can regularly exchange practical experience, discuss industry challenges, and work together to find solutions,” said Oleksandr Mazurok, Head of the Energy Safety Institute and Energy Safety Group.
The cooperation between the Energy Safety Institute and WiN Ukraine will combine technical and industry expertise with a focus on human capital development, professional education, and communication. The parties also plan to involve representatives of the Ukrainian and international nuclear communities, educational and research institutions, and other specialised organisations in joint initiatives.
The signing of the Memorandum establishes a framework for further systematic cooperation and the implementation of joint Energy Safety Institute and WiN Ukraine projects in Ukraine and at the international professional level.
