Alona Zavorotnia is the new President of WiN Ukraine

Women in Nuclear Ukraine announces the appointment of its new PresidentAlona Zavorotnia, a control systems engineer at the Thermal Automation and Instrumentation Department of the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant.

Her journey with WiN Ukraine began in 2021, when the organization, together with SE “NNEGC Energoatom”, held a large-scale seminar “Professional Development of Women in Nuclear Energy” across all Ukrainian NPP sites. This became a turning point for her: the modern format, focus on international best practices and the atmosphere of leadership revealed the true strength of WiN Ukraine as a community. Since then, she has actively participated in WiN Ukraine initiatives, supported projects and developed international partnerships.

“For me, WiN Ukraine is a modern community of like-minded women who understand the challenges faced by women in the nuclear sector and create a space for professional growth and mutual support. It brings together leaders and experts who are ready to share their experience and support each other. It is important for me not to be an observer, but a participant in events where the future of the industry is shaped. I believe that the female voice should sound confident and professional – both at the national level and on the international stage. That is why we must use every opportunity to represent Ukrainian women professionals in the global nuclear community,” emphasizes Alona.

In July this year, she took part for the first time in the Women in Nuclear Global Conference in London, organized by WiN United Kingdom. This experience became professionally valuable for her and confirmed the importance of international cooperation. Her participation was made possible thanks to the Nuclear Security Women initiative of the U.S. Department of Energy / National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA), with whom Alona collaborates and actively participates in their activities.

Alona Zavorotnia graduated from the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, majoring in Automated Control of Technological Processes, and has been working for over 15 years at the South Ukraine NPP. She is responsible for the maintenance and operation of information and computing systems important to NPP safety, takes part in the modernization and reconstruction of existing systems, and is actively involved in the implementation of national cybersecurity requirements for critical infrastructure facilities.

She highly values the contribution of Margarita Raiets and Renata Yaresko, who transformed WiN Ukraine into an influential platform for the professional development of women in the nuclear sector.

“This legacy is a solid foundation on which we will build new opportunities. My main task is to help women in nuclear energy unlock their potential, feel confident and influence the future of the industry,” stresses the President of WiN Ukraine.

WiN Ukraine congratulates Alona Zavorotnia on her new appointment and wishes her success in her future work for the benefit of the community, the energy sector and Ukraine.
